USS Susquehanna Model Boat – GN
Description
The USS Susquehanna
The USS Susquehanna is marked by 3 events;
- East India Squadron 1850-1855: The frigate sailed on 8 June for the Far East. Aulick’s orders included instructions to visit Japan to negotiate a treaty opening diplomatic relations with that country.
- Mediterranean Squadron, 1856-1861: The ship joined the Mediterranean Squadron in July under the command of Joshua R. Sands. The ship left for Veracruz a week later.
- American Civil War, 1861-1865: The ship was assigned to the Atlantic Blockading Squadron and was bound for Hampton Roads. The Susquehanna participated in the joint Army-Navy expedition to Hatteras Inlet, North Carolina. She captured Fort Clark and Fort Hatteras on 29 August. In the same month, she also captured two confiscated schooners. All four ships were loaded with contraband.
The USS Susquehanna Ship Model
the USS Susquehanna model is built with a remarkable level of craftsmanship, using the traditional technique of plank-on-frame construction. To ensure a high level of quality and detail, every step of the construction process is monitored. Hulls and decks are built exclusively from hardwoods. The model ship has been sanded and varnished in several layers to create a smooth finish. The details are reproduced using leather upholstery. The team of master craftsmen use the skills and expertise developed over many years to ensure that this model is identical to the original. The model is mounted on a solid wooden base and includes a brass plate.
