The Balmoral cruise liner was built in West Germany in 1988 and this ship has sailed under a few different names for different cruise lines. Over the ensuing years, she has sailed for Royal Cruise Line as Crown Odyssey, and later sailed for the Norwegian Cruise Line as Norwegian Crown, and then by Orient Lines as Crown Odyssey. In 2003, the ship was transferred back to Norwegian Cruise lines when the company acquired Orient and her name was restored to Crown Odyssey.

Balmoral cruise liner was chartered for the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic to sail the original route of the historic luxury liner. The ship sailed from Southampton on April 8, 2012 to Ireland, which was the last port of call before the Titanic sailed across the ocean and traced the original route of the RMS Titanic.

The ship sailed to the place where Titanic sank in time for the 100th anniversary to commemorate the sinking of the titanic on April 14, 1912 at 11 pm. A memorial service was held at the site of the sinking of the RMS Titanic and flowers were thrown in the water to honor the lives lost. The following morning, the ship resumed the rest of the intended course of the Titanic and arrived in New York City, which would have been the destination of that journey one hundred years previously.
