Description

About the Duyfken

Build in 1595 in the Netherlands, the Duyfken was the first ship to make history, by her landing on the Northern Australian shores. The Duyfken is a small yacht, whose name translates to Little Dove. She was a fast and agile ocean-going ship, equipped with 8 cannons and the ability yo engage in battle. She was also designed with a shallow draft, which allowed her to sail into shallow water easily during her explorations. Despite her size, she had the capacity to carry up to 60 tonnes of cargo.

The Duyfken Ship Model

The Duyfken model is built to a scale of 1:50 using original photos and plans, in order to re-create the ship in as much detail as possible. This model is a kit and is ready to be constructed. The kit contains laser-cut keel and frame, as well as walnut or oak planking, decks, masts and hand-crafted ornaments. The model is provided with wooden blocks for rigging, but this can also be replaced with more luxurious blocks which are an authentic replica of the original. The model comes with four cannons, but has the option for eight cannons as well, if you would prefer all the gun ports to be open. The model also comes with a simple wooden stand.

This ship model kit has been rated 1-2 out of 4 stars for its difficulty level.
