Description

Wooden ship model kit of Granado

Granado wooden model ship kit offered at Premier Ship Models is one of many kits in our product range, and this particular is one of Victory models, a company which is a result of a joint Anglo-Italian producer of the finest quality period model boat kits available in the market. This and other model boat kits from this range are designed by Chris Watton, the world renowned model boat builder and designer.

This model ship kit is for intermediate model ship builders, preferably for those who have some model building experience. The kit includes double plank on bulkhead construction in lime and walnut, gun port strip which is already pre-cut and it is not necessary to mark on and cut the gun ports yourself, 10 turned brass 4pdr cannons complete with wooden carriages, 12 turned brass swivel guns, brass mortars, brass etched components, profiled brass rails and many more detailed parts.

All parts are laser pre-cut so the building should be easy and precise. The wooden components are made of walnut and ply wood. The model ship kit pack includes also detailed actual scale plans and two comprehensive step by step color instructions including technical drawings as well as constructional photos of the prototype. Premier Ship Models can also assemble the kit for you.

The original Granado ship was the sixth out of twelve bomb vessels built at the outbreak of the War of Jenkins´s Ear in 1739. The keel was laid down in November of 1741. The designer of the ship remains unknown however the design of the ship is assigned to Thomas Slade, who also designed one of the most famous ships in naval history, the H.M.S. Victory.

Granado was an exceptional ship in terms that she was designed to be used as either a sloop or bomb vessel. Granado participated in several missions including the battle near Basse Terre and Cul de Sac Bay. The ship was converted to a bomb vessel in August of 1761 and remained in this position until being sold in August of 1763. During this period, Granado participated also in capturing Morro Castle and El Morro.
